Course Objectives:
Explain the importance of effective inventory and instrument
management in maintaining infection control, clinical efficiency,
patient safety, and cost control within the dental office
Identify and classify dental hygiene instruments, supplies, and
equipment according to function, frequency of use, and risk
level
Develop and maintain an organized inventory system that
supports clinical workflows and minimizes waste, shortages,
and overstocking
Assess instrument wear, damage, and lifecycle status to
determine sharpening, repair, replacement, or disposal needs
Utilize inventory management tools and software, where
applicable, to track usage, orders, and costs
Collaborate with the dental team to establish standardized
ordering, budgeting, and communication practices related to
hygiene inventory
Analyze inventory-related problems and propose evidence-
based solutions to improve efficiency, compliance, and cost-
effectiveness
Demonstrate professional responsibility and accountability in
managing dental hygiene instruments and supplies within legal
and ethical guidelines
